The Chocolate Chip Cookie was accidentally invented in 1938 by Ruth Wakefield in Massachusetts. She was trying to make an all chocolate cookie, but the pieces of chopped chocolate she added did not melt into the dough, and the Chocolate Chip cookie was born! Today it is the most popular cookie in the U.S. with over 7 billion eaten annually!
